The production of meat and dairy products has always been responsible for a large volume of greenhouse gas emissions, corresponding to 14.5% of global emissions. In 2020, only 20 companies in the sector – worldwide – produced more polluting gases than countries like the United Kingdom, Germany or France.

Furthermore, between 2015 and 2020, these same companies received more than US$478 billion in investments from governments and investor groups. Experts project that by 2029, meat production could increase by 40 million tons, reaching a total of 366 million tons.
