According to environmentalists, during the 2022 campaigns, the Amazon will be in the spotlight. The candidates elected this year will play a key role in environmental planning and in meeting the 2030 climate goals.
For specialists in deforestation, indigenous rights and economic development, the year will be fundamental to put Brazil on the path of preserving and combating climate change – or delaying all promises.
Despite this, traditionally, deforestation rates increase in election years and environmental guidelines are generally not central in the Legal Amazon region.
