The article states that globally traded agricultural commodities are some of the main causes of deforestation and biodiversity loss. The study combines current data on commodity flow, economic trade and biodiversity impact models in order to understand the impacts of trade on biodiversity loss and the roles of markets and remote players. This approach allows us to understand how commodity buyers and investors direct their efforts to improve the sustainability of their supply chains in their supply regions, while transforming the ability to monitor the impact of such commitments over time.
