U.S. Congress Democrats Target Palm Oil and Beef Trade in Deforestation Bill

Democrats proposed legislation to reduce illegal deforestation globally by restricting trade in certain local commodities, such as palm oil and cattle.

It is estimated that almost half of all tropical deforestation is the result of illegal forest design for commercial agriculture. Meat, soy, palm oil and wood products account for the majority of this phenomenon – about 10% of global greenhouse gas supplies.
