On 15 March, the European Council reached an agreement on the regulation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), one of the key elements of the European Union’s ‘Fit for 55’ package.
The measure’s main objective is to prevent the leakage of environmental carbon through less efficient environmental policies and to encourage partner countries to establish carbon avoidance policies for less efficient environmental policies.
The CBAM is designed to work in parallel with the EU Trading System, complementing its operation on imported goods.
The Council still foresees a minimum of remittances worth less than 15 euros of CBAM tasks, despite all the complexities of the project
