The extensive breeding of water buffaloes near the Trincheira Indigenous Land, near Manaus, has threatened the vegetation and traditional communities that inhabit the region. So far this year, more than 48,600 deforestation alerts have been confirmed in the forest of Autazes, city where the indigenous land is located.

Currently, the region is home to around 80,000 heads of cattle, driven in large part by the breeding of buffaloes adapted to life in the floodplains. Indigenous leaders accuse farmers of land grabbing in the 18 Autazes reserves, which burns native vegetation and interferes with the demarcation process.

In addition, land speculation in the region has intensified due to plans to create a potassium mine in the city, which would supply rural producers with cheaper fertilizers.
