For the first time, scientists from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have quantified in a report the increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme events linked to climate change.
In recent decades, climate science has already predicted the increase of extreme events, such as storms, floods, hurricanes, cyclones, prolonged droughts and heat waves. With more modern technological models, it is now possible to attribute the degree of influence of climate change on these events. Extreme events are estimated to be up to 39 times more frequent due to global warming.
