The European Union’s proposal to boycott Brazilian commodities linked to Amazon deforestation, whether it be legal or not, could affect up to US$ 10 billion in Brazilian exports. If approved, the plan will mainly affect the beef, coffee and soy market.

Brazilian farmers, ranchers and politicians rejected the proposal and accused European parliamentarians of trade protectionism. However, European authorities guarantee that the measure is only intended to combat the growing Brazilian deforestation.
