Shell directors are being accused of not preparing the company to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions from its production chains. In addition, the directors would have failed to explain the risks that climate change poses to the company’s operations.

The lawsuit was brought by the environmental law organization ClientEarth against 13 directors of the multinational based on British company law, which provides for the possibility of judicial liability of directors of a company if they fail to manage the company, failing to promote the success of the company. company and to exercise reasonable care.

According to ClientEarth, the directors are personally responsible for not drawing up a strategy in line with the international Paris agreement, which aims to limit global warming to below 2°C, through the reduction of emissions from fossil fuels.
