Companies and associations spoke this Monday, August 9th, about the report of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which pointed to an accelerated pace of global warming, with consequences including for the productive sector. The representatives acknowledged the seriousness of the scenario and detailed actions to be taken to mitigate it.
President of the board of directors of the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag), Marcello Brito believes that the most recent warning demonstrates the “complete inefficiency” of governments, private sector and society to develop environmental strategies “even when their very existence as we know is threatened”. He also affirms that “there is no more room for denial policies”.
According to him, there is also a lack of coordinated action to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. “There are only individual goals, there is no sectoral policy by product or even national for the agribusiness sector. There is a clear opportunity here”, he says. “In the agribusiness sector, we could achieve climate neutrality by 2030 and be the world’s frontrunner.”
