Spain’s foreign minister, Arancha González Laya, on Friday (7) asked Brazil for more commitments to combat deforestation in the Amazon, to unblock the trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur.

The agreement, concluded in 2019 after more than 20 years of negotiations, aims to create a market of about 750 million consumers between the 27 countries of the European Union and the four countries of Mercosur (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay).
