Funai (Fundação Nacional do Índio) authorized the start of construction work on the power line connecting Manaus (State of Amazonas) to Boa Vista (State of Roraima) without reaching an agreement on socio-environmental compensation with the thousands of indigenous people who live in the region. The process is mandatory for any type of licensing.

Harilson Araújo, a lawyer for the Associação Comunidade Waimiri Atroari, was not aware that the authorization to start the work would be issued. He claims that he forwarded the proposal of the indigenous families of the region, but did not receive any responses.
