Leather production in the Brazilian Amazon Forest has been increasing rapidly, but specialists warn that the activity could be a risk to the forest. In 2020, around 43% of the leather purchased by the processing industry was produced in the region.

The lack of transparency in the supply chain is the main challenge for leather production. Studies show that major brands in the international market are related to the purchase of raw material from animals raised on farms in a deforestation area.
