The importance of the Amazon to promote local, national and international changes is becoming more and more evident. However, in the last three years, deforestation rates in the Amazon have returned to an alarming increase.

A group of scientists under the coordination of Carlos Nobre, researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of São Paulo (USP) and specialist in the Amazon, launched the Amazon 4.0 initiative in 2016. It is about proposing a new development model for the Amazon based on the economy of the standing forest and on the Amazonian socio-biodiversity, allied to the possibilities of Industry 4.0.
