With support from the Dow Impact Fund, CSR Wire recently launched the project Ybá, aiming to help preserve the Amazon rainforest. The project will establish production chains of seeds and fruits, developed with the support of local cooperatives, which will have a new source of income.
The project aims to encourage the preservation of forests through the creation of sustainable business models and the mapping of biodiversity and bioactives in Dow’s 45,000 hectares of land, located in the municipality of Breu Branco, in Pará. The mapped area is home to 470 species of animals and plants, 37 of which are endangered species, which will be studied in the project.
“For the environment, we want to protect biodiversity and demonstrate how preserving the forest brings more value than deforestation. Socially, we hope that the project will contribute to diversity and local economic growth. From a business point of view, the project is a unique opportunity for joint development with customers”, said Eric Peeters, vice president of sustainability, performance materials and coatings at Dow.
