According to the CEO of Michelin in South America, Feliciano Almeida, the risk to Brazil’s exports is evident, as some nations begin to study ways to tax carbon and ban the entry of goods linked to deforestation.

Rubber is on the list of embargoes planned by the European Union to prevent the importation of products related to the destruction of the Amazon and pollution. The list of embargoes also threatens major Brazilian agricultural exports, such as soy and beef.

Currently, 28% of the rubber used in tires is natural and sustainable. In addition to natural rubber, synthetic rubber, produced from butadiene, and chemicals are used in the production of a tyre. In Europe, synthetic rubber is already produced from oils taken from beets and other foods.
