According to a study published by the scientific journal Plos One, climate change will make it much more difficult to grow arabica coffee in the coming years. Using global climate models, researchers have mapped how coffee growing conditions will change by 2050.

Currently, the most suitable areas for growing coffee are in Central and South America, particularly Brazil, as well as in Central and West Africa and parts of South and Southeast Asia. However, over the next 28 years, the projected impacts of climate change in these areas will make them much less favorable for coffee growing.

According to the article, the increase in temperature and severe changes in rainfall in these regions can raise the cost of grain production and, in some cases, force the adoption of lower quality Robusta grains.
