Annually, the world spends 2% of its GDP on subsidies that damage ecosystems and the loss of species. The amount is equivalent to US$1.8 trillion and is intended mainly for the fossil fuel and agribusiness industries.
Published by the Business for Nature network, the document also calls for the US$500 billion a year target for subsidy reform that is under discussion in the draft Biodiversity Framework to be strengthened.
