With the rapid increase in the destruction of the Amazon and the worsening of the climate crisis around the world, initiatives that are based on the preservation of biodiversity and that see the standing forest as an important asset have attracted a new generation of entrepreneurs and investors.

One of these ventures is Apoena, a socio-environmental impact company founded in Tefé, Amazonas, in 2020. Focused on the production of cassava flour, fruits and vegetable oils and guided by traditional extractivism, the initiative employs 50 local families. In addition to production, Apoena invests in training on sustainable land use.

The project started with its own investment of R$ 600 thousand and already has 22 employees and a turnover of R$ 480 thousand a year, according to one of its founders. The company has also explored initiatives such as BNDES Garagem – Negócios de Impacto, which unites producers and investors.
