New research indicates that the fashion industry may be contributing to the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest, given its connection with tanneries and the leather market. Of the 84 companies investigated, 23 have rules directly related to the preservation of the environment.

According to the researchers, companies like Nike, Prada, Adidas and Zara have multiple relationships with deforestation. The main connection is through JBS, the main producer of leather and meat in the world, which suffers from accusations of improper use of land and fraud in the control of the origin of cattle.
