In its World Trade Report published on November 16, the World Trade Organization (WTO) recognizes that trade is responsible for several sources of deforestation risk, such as agricultural expansion, cattle ranching, mining and oil extraction.

In addition, the report mentions the effects of trade restrictions and the eventual banning of mahogany in the Brazilian Amazon, which created an illegal market and caused increases in violence in areas with naturally occurring wood.

However, the document also defends the importance of international trade for the growth of countries and the production of essential technologies to overcome these crises.
