Gold extracted from illegal mining in the Kayapó Indigenous Land, in Pará, supplied Chimet, one of the largest precious metals companies in Europe. In 2020, the company made profits of more than 3 billion euros (an increase of 75% compared to the previous year).
The illegal gold was tracked through an operation by the Federal Police, which investigates the connection of miners in the southern region of Pará with companies based in Goiás, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Exports were made after fraud in the certificates of origin of the ore.
