A trade agreement between Mercosul and South Korea would be beneficial and could increase exports, production, investments and welfare of the Brazilian consumer. This is the conclusion of a study by the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea), to which Estadão/Broadcast had access.

Although the Brazilian industry is against the agreement with the Asian country, the study showed that, by reducing taxes, all sectors would have an increase in production. Exports would also increase for all, except for the extractive industry, which would have a slight drop in sales abroad at the end of the 20-year period, the deadline for the tax cuts to take effect.

The projection is that, in this period, the agreement, under the terms being negotiated, would lead to a 49% growth in exports from Brazil to Korea, compared to what would happen without the end of barriers. Sales from the Asian country to the Brazilian market would increase by 250%.
