Pastures occupy 75% of deforested areas on public land in the Amazon, revealed a study by the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM) published on October 26th. The greenhouse gases emission associated with this destruction corresponds to five years of national emissions of greenhouse gases in Brazil.
In over two decades, 8% of the existing public forests in the Brazilian Amazon were deforested. The area devastated in this period is larger than the state of Paraná.
