Impacts of Rural-Urban Migration, Urbanization and Generational Change on Consumption of Wild Animals in the Amazon


The article analyzes how Brazilian urbanization affects the consumption of meat from wild animals in the Amazon, a food habit brought to urban centers during exodus that can have negative effects on biodiversity. Currently, 55% of the Brazilian population lives in cities and data indicates that this difference should increase in the coming years, changing the way the population uses the available natural resources.
