Inclusion, Transparency, and Enforcement: How the EU-Mercosur Trade Agreement Fails the Sustainability Test


The article states that trade agreements can help protect human rights, critical ecosystems and the climate – but only if sustainability becomes the cornerstone of international trade. The study states that the EU – Mercosur trade agreement does not comply with our three principles of sustainable trade agreements: (1) inclusion of local communities, (2) transparency mechanisms to track commodities and provide open access information, and (3) oversight to legally meet sustainability commitments.
