Mining threatens isolated indigenous peoples in the Brazilian Amazon

The study shows that mining interests in the Brazilian Amazon represent an imminent threat to several indigenous groups in the region. By cross-referencing mining requests to the National Mining Agency with reports from uncontacted groups in indigenous territories in the Amazon, the researchers found that 45% of the mining interests registered were located in indigenous territories with isolated groups, in an area that has the size of the state of Santa Catarina.
