The report analyzes the TSD chapter of the EU – Mercosur Agreement and states that it: 1. does not reinforce countries’ commitments to the Paris Agreement: 2. does not offer a robust scheme for solving environmental and social problems; 3. does not include substantial obligations in value chains where there are significant environmental and social risks, and does not include obligations for more sustainable production chains; 4. the socio-environmental impact analysis study commissioned by the EU is problematic, as is the monitoring of other EU free trade agreements, which raises suspicions about the ability of reliable monitoring.
