The drought in this year’s crop had billionaire impacts. In Rio Grande do Sul, losses from soybeans and corn reached US$ 7,54 billion, according to agricultural cooperatives in the state. Considering Santa Catarina, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul, there are more US$ 5,24 billion in losses.
The initial forecast for the 2021-22 soybean and corn crop was 144 million tons, but this has been reduced to 122.7 million. National production, in general, suffered a drop in productivity of 50% to 80%.
With climate change, there are initiatives demanding more engagement from Brazil to protect forests. One of them is Coalizão Brasil Clima, Florestas e Agricultura, a coalition that comprises more than 300 representatives from the private sector, financial sector, academia and civil society.
