Commodity production in Brazil: Combining zero deforestation and zero illegality

The study follows the failure to comply with the Forest Code in Brazil and addresses the importance of market demands to shift agricultural production and land occupation to zero deforestation. By analyzing data from rural properties, researchers found that 82% of the properties sampled have not deforested since 2008, thus fulfilling the soy moratorium. From this analysis, it is concluded that there is still a need to implement purchase and financing criteria to promote compliance with the requirements of the Forest Code in relation to the legal reserve of deficits.
